What is Tile adhesive?

What is Tile adhesive?

Tile adhesive (also known as tile bond, ceramic tile adhesive, tile grout, viscose clay, beneficial clay, etc.), consists of hydraulic cementitious materials (cement), mineral aggregates (quartz sand ), organic admixtures (rubber powder, etc.), which need to be mixed with water or other liquids in a certain proportion when used. It is mainly used to paste decorative materials such as ceramic tiles, facing tiles, and floor tiles, and is widely used in decorative decoration places such as interior and exterior walls, floors, bathrooms, and kitchens.Its main features are high bonding strength, water resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, good aging resistance and convenient construction. It is a very ideal bonding material. It replaces the traditional cement yellow sand, and its adhesive strength is several times that of cement mortar. It can effectively paste large tiles and stones, avoiding the risk of bricks falling off; its good flexibility prevents hollowing in production.

Classification

Tile adhesive is a new material for modern decoration, replacing traditional cement yellow sand. The adhesive strength of the glue is several times that of cement mortar, which can effectively paste large tiles and stones, avoiding the risk of bricks falling off. Good flexibility to prevent hollowing in production. The usual tile adhesive is a polymer modified cement-based tile adhesive, which can be divided into ordinary type, strong type and super type (larger size tiles or marble) and other varieties.

Ordinary tile adhesive

It is suitable for pasting various ground bricks or small wall bricks on the ordinary mortar surface;

Strong tile adhesive

It has strong bonding force and anti-sagging performance, and is suitable for pasting wall tiles and non-mortar surfaces such as wood panels or old decorative surfaces that require high bonding force;

super strong tile adhesive

Strong bonding force, more flexibility, can resist the stress caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the adhesive layer, suitable for pasting tiles on gypsum board, fiberboard, plywood or old finishes (tiles, mosaics, terrazzo), etc. and larger Pasting of stone slabs of various sizes. In addition to gray, tile adhesives are also available with a white appearance for pale or translucent marble, ceramic tiles and other natural stones.

Ingredients

1)Cement: including Portland cement, aluminate cement, sulphoaluminate cement, iron-aluminate cement, etc. Cement is an inorganic gelling material that develops strength after hydration.

2)Aggregate: including natural sand, artificial sand, fly ash, slag powder, etc. The aggregate plays the role of filling, and the high-quality graded aggregate can reduce the cracking of the mortar.

3)Redispersible latex powder: including vinyl acetate, EVA, VeoVa, styrene-acrylic acid terpolymer, etc. Rubber powder can improve the adhesion, flexibility and durability requirements of tile adhesives during use.

4)Cellulose ether: including CMC, HEC, HPMC, HEMC, EC, etc. Cellulose ether plays the role of bonding and thickening, and can adjust the rheological properties of fresh mortar.

5)Lignocellulose: It is made of natural wood, food fiber, vegetable fiber, etc. through chemical treatment, extraction, processing and grinding. It has properties such as crack resistance and workability improvement.

Others also include different additives such as water reducing agent, thixotropic agent, early strength agent, expansion agent, and waterproofing agent.

illustrate ①. In order to improve the early strength of the product, an appropriate amount of polyvinyl alcohol powder is specially added to replace a part of the redispersible latex powder in the common formula (especially considering the comprehensive effect and cost).

②. You can also add 3 to 5 kg of calcium formate as an early strength agent to make the tile adhesive improve its strength faster.

Remark:

1. It is recommended to use high-quality 42.5R ordinary silicon cement (if you must fight the cost, you can choose authentic high-quality 325# cement).

2. It is recommended to use quartz sand (because of its less impurities and high strength; if you want to reduce costs, you can choose clean washed sand).

3. If the product is used to bond stone, large vitrified tiles, etc., it is strongly recommended to add 1.5~2 kg of starch ether to prevent sliding! At the same time, it is best to use high-quality 425-grade cement and increase the amount of cement added to enhance the cohesive force of the product!

Features

High cohesion, no need to soak bricks and wet walls during construction, good flexibility, waterproof, impermeability, crack resistance, good aging resistance, high temperature resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, non-toxic and environmentally friendly, and easy construction.

scope of application

It is suitable for the paste of indoor and outdoor ceramic wall and floor tiles and ceramic mosaics, and it is also suitable for the waterproof layer of internal and external walls, pools, kitchens and bathrooms, basements, etc. of various buildings. It is used for pasting ceramic tiles on the protective layer of the external thermal insulation system. It needs to wait for the material of the protective layer to be cured to a certain strength. The base surface should be dry, firm, flat, free of oil, dust, and release agents.

Construction method

surface treatment

All surfaces should be solid, dry, clean, free from shaking, oil, wax and other loose matter;

Painted surfaces shall be roughened to expose at least 75% of the original surface;

After the new concrete surface is completed, it needs to be cured for six weeks before laying bricks, and the newly plastered surface should be cured for at least seven days before laying bricks;

Old concrete and plastered surfaces can be cleaned with detergent and rinsed with water. The surface can be tiled after it is dried;

If the substrate is loose, highly water-absorbent or the floating dust and dirt on the surface are difficult to clean, you can first apply Lebangshi primer to help the tiles bond.

Stir to mix

Put the powder into clean water and stir it into a paste, pay attention to add the water first and then the powder. Manual or electric mixers can be used for stirring;

The mixing ratio is 25 kg of powder and about 6~6.5 kg of water; if necessary, it can be replaced by our company’s Leibang Shi tile additiveClear water, the ratio is about 25 kg of powder plus 6.5-7.5 kg of additives;

Stirring needs to be sufficient, subject to the fact that there is no raw dough. After the stirring is completed, it must be left still for about ten minutes and then stirred for a while before use;

The glue should be used within about 2 hours according to the weather conditions (the crust on the surface of the glue should be removed and not used). Do not add water to the dried glue before use.

construction technology

Apply the glue on the working surface with a toothed scraper to make it evenly distributed and form a strip of teeth (adjust the angle between the scraper and the working surface to control the thickness of the glue). Apply about 1 square meter each time (depending on the weather temperature, the required construction temperature range is 5~40°C), and then knead and press the tiles on the tiles within 5~15 minutes (adjustment takes 20~25 minutes) If the size of the toothed scraper is selected, the flatness of the working surface and the degree of convexity on the back of the tile should be considered; if the groove on the back of the tile is deep or the stone or tile is larger and heavier, glue should be applied on both sides, that is, Apply the glue on the working surface and the back of the tile at the same time; pay attention to retain the expansion joints; after the brick laying is completed, the next step of the joint filling process can only be performed after the glue is completely dry (about 24 hours); before it is dry, use Clean the tile surface (and tools) with a damp cloth or sponge. If it is cured for more than 24 hours, the stains on the surface of the tiles can be cleaned with tile and stone cleaners (do not use acid cleaners).

Precautions

  1. The verticality and flatness of the substrate must be confirmed before application.

2. Do not mix the dried glue with water before reuse.

3. Pay attention to keep the expansion joints.

4. 24 hours after the paving is completed, you can step into or fill in the joints.

5. The product is suitable for use in an environment of 5°C~40°C.

other

1. The coverage area varies according to the specific conditions of the project.

2. Product packaging: 20kg/bag.

3. Product storage: Store in a cool and dry place.

4. Shelf life: Unopened products can be stored for one year.

Production of tile adhesive:

The tile adhesive production process can be simply summarized into five parts: calculating the proportion of ingredients, weighing, feeding, mixing, and packaging.

Equipment selection for tile adhesive:

Tile adhesive contains quartz sand or river sand, which requires high equipment. If the discharge system of a general mixer is prone to material jams, clogging, and powder leakage, it is advisable to use a special Tile adhesive mixer.
