Popular science|What are the dissolution methods of methyl cellulose?

When it comes to the solubility of methyl cellulose, it mainly refers to the solubility of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose.

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is a white or yellowish flocculent fiber powder, which is odorless and tasteless. It is easily soluble in cold or hot water, forming a transparent solution with a certain viscosity.

What is solubility? In fact, it refers to the mass of solute dissolved by a certain solid substance in a relatively saturated state in 100g of solvent at a certain temperature. This is solubility. The solubility of methyl cellulose is related to two aspects. On the one hand, it depends on the characteristics of carboxymethyl cellulose, and on the other hand, it has a little relationship with the external temperature, humidity, pressure, solvent type, etc. The solubility of carboxymethyl cellulose is usually most obviously affected by temperature, and it will increase with the increase of temperature.

There are three methods of dissolving methylcellulose:

1. Organic solvent wetting method. This method is mainly to disperse or wet MC organic solvents such as ethanol and ethylene glycol in advance, and then add water to dissolve.

2. Hot water method. Because MC is insoluble in hot water, MC can be evenly dispersed in hot water at the initial stage. When cooling, the following two methods can be followed:

(1) You can first add an appropriate amount of hot water to the container and heat it to about 70°C. MC was gradually added with slow stirring, gradually forming a slurry, which was then cooled with stirring.

(2) Add 1/3 of the required amount of water into a fixed container, heat it to 70°C, and disperse the MC according to the method just mentioned, and then prepare hot water slurry; then add it to cold water Go to the slurry, stir well and cool the mixture.

3. Powder mixing method. This method is mainly to disperse MC powder particles and equal powder ingredients by dry mixing, and then add water to dissolve.
