Methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose is prepared by introducing ethylene oxide substituents (MS0.3~0.4) into methyl cellulose, and its gel temperature is higher than that of methyl cellulose and methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose. , its comprehensive performance is better than methyl cellulose and methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose.

Methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose is mainly used as thickener, stabilizer and protective colloid in architectural mortar and water-based coatings.

Physical and chemical properties

1. Solubility: soluble in water and some organic solvents, the highest concentration only depends on the viscosity, the solubility changes with the viscosity, the lower the viscosity, the greater the solubility.

2. Salt resistance: The product is non-ionic cellulose ether, which is relatively stable in aqueous solution, but excessive addition of electrolyte can cause gelation and precipitation.

3. Surface activity: Because the aqueous solution has surface activity function, it can be used as colloid protective agent, emulsifier and dispersant.

4. Thermal gel: When the aqueous solution of the product is heated to a certain temperature, it becomes opaque, gels, and forms a precipitate, but when it is continuously cooled, it returns to the original solution state.

5. Metabolism: Metabolism is inert and has low odor and fragrance. Because they are not metabolized and have low odor and fragrance, they are widely used in food and medicine.

6. Mildew resistance: It has good anti-mildew ability and good viscosity stability during long-term storage.

7. PH stability: The viscosity of the aqueous solution of the product is hardly affected by acid or alkali, and the PH value is relatively stable in the range of 3.0-11.0.

8. Low ash content: Since the product is non-ionic, it is effectively refined by washing with hot water during the preparation process, so its ash content is very low.

9. Shape retention: Since the highly concentrated aqueous solution of the product has special viscoelastic properties compared with the aqueous solutions of other polymers, its addition has the ability to improve the shape of extruded ceramic products.

10. Water retention: The hydrophilicity of the product and the high viscosity of its aqueous solution make it an efficient water retention agent.
