Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose Ether (HPMC)

Features:
① With good water retention, thickening, rheology and adhesion, it is the first choice raw material for improving the quality of building materials and decorative materials.
②Wide range of uses: due to complete grades, it can be applied to all powder building materials. 
③Small dosage: 2-3 kg per ton of powder building materials due to high quality.
④ Good high temperature resistance: the water retention rate of general HPMC products will decrease with the increase of temperature. In contrast, our products can make the mortar have a higher water retention rate when the temperature reaches 30-40°C. Stable water retention even at high temperature for 48 hours.
⑤Good solubility: at room temperature, add water and stir for about 5 minutes, let it sit for a few minutes, and then stir to dissolve. Dissolution is accelerated at PH8-10. The solution is placed for a long time and has good stability. In dry mix materials, the speed of dispersing and dissolving in water is more ideal.

The role of HPMC in dry powder mortar

In dry powder mortar, methyl cellulose ether plays the role of water retention, thickening and improving construction performance. Good water retention performance ensures that the mortar will not cause sanding, powdering and strength reduction due to water shortage and incomplete cement hydration; the thickening effect greatly enhances the structural strength of the wet mortar, and the addition of methyl cellulose ether can obviously Improve the wet viscosity of wet mortar, and have good adhesion to various substrates, thereby improving the performance of wet mortar on the wall and reducing waste.

Generally speaking, the higher the viscosity, the better the water retention effect. However, the higher the viscosity, the higher the molecular weight of MC, and its solubility will be relatively reduced, which can have a negative impact on the strength and construction performance of the mortar. The higher the viscosity, the more obvious the thickening effect on the mortar, but it is not directly proportional. The higher the viscosity, the more viscous the wet mortar will be. During construction, it is manifested as sticking to the scraper and high adhesion to the substrate. But it is not helpful to increase the structural strength of the wet mortar itself.

Physical and chemical properties:

1. Appearance: white or off-white powder.
2. Particle size: 80-100 mesh pass rate is greater than 98.5%; 80 mesh pass rate is 100%.
3. Carbonization temperature: 280-300°C
4. Apparent density: 0.25-0.70/cm3 (usually around 0.5/cm3), specific gravity 1.26-1.31.
5. Discoloration temperature: 190-200°C.
6. Surface tension: 2% aqueous solution is 42-56dyn/cm3.
7. Soluble in water and some solvents, such as ethanol/water, propanol/water, trichloroethane, etc. in appropriate proportions. Aqueous solutions are surface active. High transparency and stable performance. Different specifications of products have different gel temperatures, and the solubility changes with viscosity. The lower the viscosity, the greater the solubility. Different specifications of HPMC have certain differences in performance, and the dissolution of HPMC in water is not affected by the pH value.
8. With the reduction of methoxyl content, the gel point increases, the water solubility of HPMC decreases, and the surface activity also decreases.
9. HPMC also has the characteristics of thickening ability, salt resistance, low ash content, PH stability, water retention, dimensional stability, excellent film forming, and wide range of enzyme resistance, dispersibility and cohesiveness.

The main purpose:

1. Construction industry: As a water-retaining agent and retarder for cement mortar, it can make the mortar pumpable. Used as a binder in plaster, plaster, putty powder or other building materials to improve spreadability and prolong work time. It can be used as paste tile, marble, plastic decoration, paste reinforcement, and can also reduce the amount of cement. The water-retaining performance of HPMC prevents the slurry from cracking due to drying too quickly after application, and enhances the strength after hardening.
2. Ceramic manufacturing industry: It is widely used as a binder in the manufacture of ceramic products.
3. Coating industry: It is used as a thickener, dispersant and stabilizer in the coating industry, and has good compatibility in water or organic solvents. Can be used in paint remover.
4. Ink printing: It is used as a thickener, dispersant and stabilizer in the ink industry, and has good compatibility in water or organic solvents.
5. Plastic: used as forming release agent, softener, lubricant, etc.
6. Polyvinyl chloride: It is used as a dispersant in the production of polyvinyl chloride, and it is the main auxiliary agent for preparing PVC by suspension polymerization.
7. Others: This product is also widely used in leather, paper products, fruit and vegetable preservation and textile industries.

How to dissolve and use:

1. Take 1/3 or 2/3 of the required amount of hot water and heat it to above 85°C, add cellulose to obtain a hot water slurry, then add the remaining amount of cold water, keep stirring, and cool the resulting mixture.
2. Make porridge-like mother liquor: first make HPMC mother liquor with higher concentration (the method is the same as above to slurry), add cold water and continue stirring until transparent.
3. Dry mixed use: Due to the excellent compatibility of HPMC, it can be conveniently mixed with cement, gypsum powder, pigments and fillers, etc., and achieve the desired effect.

Packaging, storage and transportation precautions:

Packaged in paper plastic or cardboard barrels lined with polyethylene plastic bags, net weight per bag: 25kg. Sealed for storage. Protect from sun, rain and moisture during storage and transportation.
