Application ratio of HPMC in different mortars

HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) is a chemical additive widely used in building materials. It plays an important role in different types of mortars due to its excellent thickening, water retention, lubrication, stability and other properties.

1

1. Tile adhesive (tile bonding mortar)

In tile adhesive, the main function of HPMC is to enhance water retention, improve construction performance, and increase bonding strength. Tile adhesive needs to have good bonding performance and a long open time, so the demand for HPMC is high.

Application ratio: The addition ratio of KimaCell®HPMC in tile adhesive is usually 0.2%-0.5% of the total mortar, which is adjusted according to the size of the tile, the construction environment and the product formula.

Effect: Improve adhesion, reduce the risk of brick falling, and ensure good construction fluidity and spreadability.

2. Plastering mortar

Plastering mortar requires high water retention and crack resistance so that it can maintain sufficient wet time during construction in a dry environment and reduce cracks caused by shrinkage. The addition of HPMC to this type of mortar is mainly to improve water retention and construction performance.

Application ratio: HPMC addition is generally 0.1%-0.3%.

Effect: Improve the water retention of mortar, extend the operability time, enhance the anti-sagging property, and make the plastering surface smoother.

3. Self-leveling mortar

The fluidity and leveling property of self-leveling mortar are its key indicators, and HPMC improves its performance by improving the viscosity and water retention of mortar.

Application ratio: HPMC addition is usually 0.1%-0.4%.

Effect: Improve the fluidity and dispersibility of mortar, while reducing water seepage, ensuring a smooth surface after construction.

4. Waterproof mortar

Waterproof mortar has high requirements for crack resistance and bonding performance. HPMC is mainly used in this mortar to enhance the water retention and bonding strength of the material, while optimizing the crack resistance of the mortar.

Application ratio: The dosage of HPMC is generally 0.2%-0.5%.

Effect: Effectively reduce the cracking rate of mortar after construction, while improving the density and bonding strength of the waterproof layer.

5. Masonry mortar

Masonry mortar requires sufficient bonding strength and good workability. HPMC ensures the smooth progress of masonry construction by improving water retention and operability.

Application ratio: The addition ratio of HPMC is 0.1%-0.3%.

Effect: Improve the workability of mortar, reduce water loss, and improve masonry strength.

6. Insulation mortar

Insulation mortar usually needs to add lightweight aggregate to ensure the insulation effect. The main function of HPMC is to enhance bonding strength and improve construction performance, while improving the water retention of the material.

Application ratio: The dosage of HPMC is generally 0.1%-0.5%.

Effect: Improve the construction fluidity and water retention of mortar, so that the insulation mortar can maintain stable performance in different environments.

7. Repair mortar

Repair mortar is used for structural repair or crack filling, and has high requirements for bonding strength and crack resistance. The application of HPMC in it helps to improve the fluidity and adhesion of construction.

Application ratio: The addition amount of HPMC is 0.2%-0.4%.

Effect: Increase adhesion, reduce mortar shrinkage cracks, and improve repair effects.

Factors affecting the proportion of HPMC addition

Construction environment: Temperature, humidity, etc. will affect the proportion of HPMC addition. KimaCell®HPMC needs to be added in a high temperature and dry environment to improve water retention.

Mortar type and performance requirements: Different mortars have different requirements for strength, adhesion, water retention and other indicators, which affects the amount of HPMC.

HPMC viscosity grade: HPMC of different viscosities has different effects on mortar performance, and it is crucial to choose the right grade and proportion.

3

The application ratio of HPMC in mortar is usually 0.1%-0.5%, and the specific amount needs to be adjusted according to the type of mortar, construction requirements and environmental conditions. The scientific and reasonable use of HPMC can not only significantly improve the performance of mortar, but also reduce the difficulty of construction and improve the quality of the project.
